Northern railway was establishe dformally in te year 1952. This Nortthern region of Indi9an Railway is till date the largest zone of Indian Railways in terms of route kilometers. It is even the largest railway zone after the Indian Railway was re structured in 16 zones.
Indian Northern railway, the largest zone of Indian Railways is divided in five divisions. Th divisions include Ambala, Delhi, Ferozpur, Lucknow and Moradabad. Previously the zone had almost 110470.43 route Kms but at present the distance is reduced to 6807.80 rute Kms.
