Northeast Frontier Railway

Northeast Frontier Railway is one of the most important railway zones of India. It is considered as a small but integral part of Indian Railways. The railway is determined to bridge the distances from one place to another. The railway spreads across as many as North Eastern States like West Bengal,Assam, Bihar, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim. The railway also serves as a railhead for the nations like Nepal, Bhutan. It also provides interchange facilities with Bangladesh Railway.

Northeast Frontier Railway has a historical connection with the former Assam Railway & trading Company, Assam Bengal railways and Eastern Bengal railways. Assam Railway has made the largest contribution to this railway zone. the partition of 1947 secluded Assam and the other Northeastern states from the rest of India. For this reason the railway structure has to be altered in the region in te year 1950. northeast Frontier Railway was finally built in the year 1958 and the headquarter of the zone is situated at Maligaon in Guahati. It is even the smallest railway zone after the Indian Railway was re structured in 16 zones.



The northeast Frontier Railway region offers some of the most beautiful travel destinations to all its passengers. The route takes you to the beautiful Himalayan mountains, terrain, valleys as well as the beautiful tea gardens and plain.

Northern railway takes you to the Assam where every year millions of pilgrim come to pay respect to the Nichal parbat which is the abode of goddess KamaKhaya. You can also go to the beautiful teagardens, Kajiranga reserve forest which are considered as the important tourist spots.

Amritsar is another important destination of Northeast Frontier Railway. Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Manipur and Nagaland are the most important places to visit in the Northeast Frontier Railway region.

Northeast Frontier Railway also plays the role of the economic lifeline of the region. Everyday Northeast Frontier Railway operates many freight trains that carries the raw materials of different industries, food grains, fertilizers.
