The Indian Railways is one of the largest railway system in the world. It is a department under the Ministry of Railways, of the Government of India. The Indian Railways has the second largest number of employees in the world, right after the Chinese Army. It is also the world's largest commercial employer, with over 1.5 million employees. The Indian Railways have a commendable number of locomotives, which include passenger trains, and wagons. The total distance covered by the Indian Railways is about 63,140 Kilometers. The Indian Railways, which has presently become such a huge industry, was first introduced by the British in 1853. the first train journey was between Thane and Mumbai. The Railways soon gained popularity among the Indians and by 1947, there were a total of 42 railway system.

After the country gained independence, all the railway systems were nationalized to form Indian Railways. For the convenience of managing this huge industry, Indian Railways had been divided into several administrative zones.
Each year several new trains are introduced for the convenience of the ever increasing number of passengers. In the recent past, special attention has been given to the needs of the working class and the business class people. Several new trains have been introduced for them. The Shram Shakti Express, is one such train.
The Shram Shakti Express had been introduced in September 2002, which caters to the needs of the people belonging to the business class. The name of the train means, The Power of Labor, this The Shram Shakti Express travels between the Kanpur Central Railway Station and New Delhi Railway Station. It is a non stop train which serves the business community of Kanpur. The train runs daily between these two stations and covers a distance of about 444 kilometers. The train offers passengers with First Class AC, Second class AC, Third Class AC and sleeper class coaches.
